License Free Fishing This Weekend In New York

The first statewide free fishing weekend in New York for 2020 will take place this weekend, February 15 and 16.

This is an opportunity for New Yorkers to try out fishing without having to buy a NY Fishing License. So, if you're a novice and you've always wanted to try ice fishing this is your weekend. Just make sure the ice is thick enough.

The free fishing days program is part of the Governor's NY Open for Fishing and Hunting Initiative and the upcoming free fishing days are the first of several planned for 2020. The program started in 1991 as a way to introduce people to the hobby without the cost of a fishing license.
