Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's the U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division!

When the events of 911 hit the United States of America much of the country became unified. An example of that would be my recollection of the Boston Red Sox playing "New York, New York" over the PA at Fenway Park as a salute to New Yorkers and their rivals the Yankees. North and South melted lines of distinction and it was us against the world, so to speak.

As 2019 came to a close and we made our resolutions and plans for the coming year we did so with hope that we could turn the page and make the new year even better than the last. We had hope.

Along came 2020 and with it the Corona Virus pandemic and an intense political season. The results of 2020 could not have been fully predicted. Including the divide we are experiencing across the country.

Does the current climate help or hurt our military and their objectives? That remains to be seen as the coming weeks and months unfold. Something to keep an eye on here is the Capital Region is the U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division and their proposed plan to train in and around the Adirondacks of New York.

The majority of this training would take place in Northern New York with some helicopter training over Saratoga County. The current issues are the the impact this training could have on the region. A report compiled by the Army Corps of Engineers would suggest no significant impact. Environmental groups have their concerns.

The report from the Army Corps of Engineers is just the beginning of a lengthy process that will also garner advice from the community, environmental groups and the like. So how will decisions be made? With time.
