Over one million people have signed up for the event called “Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All of Us”. The Event is set for September 20 to “raid” the US Air Force base in Nevada. Everyone wants to see those aliens! I fully expect a few lost souls to show up outside the Area 51 perimeter with a brown bag lunch and a can of Monster wrapped in aluminum foil.

This all started out as an internet joke on Facebook. The guy that organized this group even said in his post, “Hello US government, this is a joke, and I do not actually intend to go ahead with this plan. I just thought it would be funny and get me some thumbsy uppies on the internet.”

However, since this event has gotten so much attention the United States Air Force has taken notice. Air Force spokesperson Laura McAndrews told the Washington Post that while the Air Force is aware of the event and is prepared to “protect” the facility should people try and enter the secured facility.

“[Area 51] is an open training range for the U.S. Air Force, and we would discourage anyone from trying to come into the area where we train American armed forces,” McAndrews said. “The U.S. Air Force always stands ready to protect America and its assets.”

So storming a heavily guarded secret military base probably isn’t the smartest thing to do, but there is an upside to this event. The internet memes are absolute gold. Here are a few of my favorites.
