In April of 2023, according to the New York Daily News, a manager at the Chopt Creative Salad Company in Mount Kisco, NY severed a portion of her finger while chopping arugula. When the injured manager left to seek medical attention pieces of her finger were allegedly mixed with ingredients and served to customers.

Cozzi's suit suggests that she bought a salad at Chopt on April 7, 2023, and realized while eating it that "she was chewing on a portion of a human finger that had been mixed in to, and made a part of, the salad."
