Your Top 10 Store Choices to Replace Albany’s Christmas Tree Shops, Ranked

Earlier this week it was reported that Christmas Tree Shops (CTS) is now scheduled to close all of its 82 locations around the United States, with 14 in New York State including Albany, Syracuse and Poughkeepsie.

With the potential demise of the Christmas Tree Shops location at Colonie Center in Albany we asked you which store you would like to see take it's place. Here are the top 10 suggestions, ranked.

It appears that most don't want Christmas Tree Shops to close but that is out of our hands. We took to social media to poll shoppers on which store should replace CTS. These are the top 10 suggestions.

#10 - SPIRIT HALLOWEEN - Whether we want this or not Spirit Halloween will pop up somewhere in a couple of months. At least for a while.

#9 - DILLARD'S - Dillard's 'The Style of Your Life' with locations coast to coast. The closest to New York would be in Ohio.

#8 - WEGMANS - 48 New York locations from the southern tier to central New York and out to Buffalo but nothing in the Capital Region.

#7 - HOMEGOODS - We currently have 5 Capital Region HomeGoods locations but why not make it 6?

#6 - WIT'S END - There is only 1 Wit's End and it's in Clifton Park, NY. Many seem to think we could use a second location as a replacement for Christmas Tree Shops.

#5 - TOPGOLF - Kind of like a golf version of Dave & Busters. Currently the closest location to Albany is Long Island.

#4 - CABELA'S - Cabela's was a strong suggestion to replace Christmas Tree Shops but Clifton park beat us to it. A new 70,000 square foot store will open in 2024.

#3 - COSTCO - This membership-only big box retail store appears to be wanted in the Capital Region. As of now you'd have to drive to Massachusetts or Connecticut to shop there.

#2 - ROSS - Ross 'Dress for Less'! With nearly 20 locations between Pennsylvania and New Jersey this could be a good choice to replace CTS at Colonie Center.

#1 - IKEA - Affordable home furnishings and home goods. This was, by far, the most popular suggestion to replace Christmas Tree Shops at Colonie Center. New Haven, CT is the closest location to Albany.
