Dennis Drue Gets Five To 15 Years In Prison For 2012 Northway Crash That Killed Two Teenagers

This past Sunday marked one year since Shenendehowa students Deanna Rivers and Chris Stewart were killed in a car accident on the Northway about a mile from the Twin Bridges. Today, the man responsible for the crash, 23-year-old Dennis Drue, faced his fate and was sentenced to five to 15 years in prison.

Matthew Hardy and Bailey Wind, the deceased's boyfriend and girlfriend, were also in the Ford Explorer but survived the crash with non-life threatening injuries.

Drue was highly intoxicated on the night of the crash- both alcohol and marijuana were present in his blood. He was also estimated to be speeding to a degree of about 80 mph- far faster than anyone needs to or should ever be driving. He admitted he was texting as well- a deadly mix- literally and unfortunately.

Back in September, Drue pleaded guilty to all 58 counts against him.

...It was not a plea deal, rather, Drue admitted to the entire indictment, taking the district attorney's office basically out of the equation.

Last summer, Drue rejected the plea deal of 5 to 15 years. Had he gone to trial and been convicted, he risked up to 25 years behind bars.

Judge Jerry Scarano delivered Drue's fate in words after Bailey and Matt made statements, as well as the parents of both late teens. Obviously, they are all outraged and feel his sentence is nowhere close to what he should have gotten- life in prison.
