Lays Potato Chips every year holds the 'Do Us A Flavor' contest that gives the consumer a chance to create the next flavor of chips. Sometimes this results in greatness, other times it leaves you wondering about people's taste.

Over the weekend while out shopping I came across a flavor that wasn't a result of that contest but left me wondering what people are thinking when they create a flavor of chip.

As seen below, I discovered a flavor of potato chip called "Classic American Hot Dog." Why on God's green Earth does this exists? There have been Ketchup and Pickle flavored chips, which I thought went too far but this takes it to a whole new level.

Did I buy them for a taste test? No! My stomach turned as I saw the bag. This lead me to look at the 'Do Us A Flavor' website to see what flavors were created this year, which aren't much better. Some examples include:

  • Candied Bacon & Chocolate
  • Buttery Scalloped Corn Pimiento
  • Grilled Cheese & Ketchup
  • Tomato, Basil, & Mozzarella
  • Chicken Noodle Soup
  • Carnival Smoked Turkey Leg (?)
  • Hot Banana Pudding

To say we've gone too far in our flavor selection for potato chips has gone too far is an understatement, in my mind. What happened to the days of regular, wavy, kettle cooked, nacho cheese, and Bar-B-Que?
