The future of club hockey at the University at Buffalo currently hangs in the balance.

Three club hockey programs currently exist at UB: Men's ACHA DI, Women's ACHA DII, and Men's AAU DI. The programs have been in existence in some form since 1895, and for 20 years, have been associated with UB's Student Association.

That arrangement has changed in 2024. Read more about the future of these programs in this message posted on X:

Per information shared in a Change.org petition, the club hockey programs have been de-recognized by the Student Association for failing to have 3 on-campus events. This issue is compounded by the fact that the university does not officially recognize the programs either.

To summarize, neither students nor administrators at UBuffalo have committed their support to the club hockey programs, leaving them without a plan for the future.

As described in a post on the club hockey website, the programs have tried to affiliate themselves with multiple campus offices, including the recreation department, the athletic department, and even the School of Management.

None of those plans came to fruition, and now, none of the programs are able to start their seasons on-time.

Members of the programs have organized a Change.org petition, with an intended goal of 5,000 signatures. Theoretically, the club hockey members will be able to show this petition to school officials, and hope that the support shown online is enough to get the school to recognize them officially.
