A Major Change Could Be Coming at Saratoga Race Course for 2025 Meet
The 40 days that we all spend at Saratoga Race Course each year are always a highlight of the summer.
It's an amazing tradition: hundreds of thousands of racing fans flock to "The Spa" to watch the most dominant thoroughbreds in the world sprint their way around one of the legendary track surfaces on the property.
In 2025, Saratoga Race Course will once again open its gates, and thousands of fans will make their way to the grandstand, the backyard, or a luxury suite. That said, a change may be coming for the 2025 meet, one that would allow fans to enjoy even more high-quality competition.
As reported by multiple outlets, including Thoroughbred Daily News, New York Racing Association officials are considering adding an extra weekend of racing to the 2025 schedule at Saratoga Race Course.

As such, the 2025 meet could conceivably start on Thursday, July 3rd, and conclude on Monday, September 1st (Labor Day). Nothing is confirmed, as officials will not announce any scheduling details until the fall.
The 2025 meet will be building on a very successful 2024 campaign at Saratoga Race Course. Here were a few highlights from the 2024 meet, per The Times Union:
- On-track average daily handle increased by 3.2% ($20,610,435 in 2024)
- Total all-sources handle for the proper Saratoga Race Course meet was up ($803,806,964)
- There was only one racing fatality across the full 43 racing days at Saratoga this year (89% decrease from 2023)
- Off-track fatalities, which include training, were also down by more than 50%
