Pose with a Legendary Sports Trophy at Saratoga Race Course on Saturday
If you're a hockey fan, you're not going to want to miss this event happening at Saratoga Race Course this weekend.
Hockey and horse racing, or as Eddie Olczyk calls it, pucks and ponies, are coming together on Saturday afternoon at the track. The Stanley Cup, the trophy presented to the champion of the National Hockey League each season, will be on display for fans to see.
Attendees will have an opportunity to take photos with the Stanley Cup at no charge. The world-famous trophy will be on display from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Jockey Silks Porch, per the New York Racing Association.
As is tradition each summer, every member of the team that wins the Stanley Cup is allowed to spend one day with the Cup in their possession. Players often get creative with how they spend their day with the trophy.
A few examples include:
- eating and drinking from the top of the Cup
- using the top as a baptismal font for a baby
- lifting the cup while standing under Niagara Falls
Those are just a few of the countless wild "Day with the Cup" activities.

Saturday, however, the Cup will have a much more tame experience. Vincent "Vinnie" Viola, the owner of the Florida Panthers, is the one who made the choice to bring the Cup to Saratoga this year. Viola has heavy ties to the horse racing world, as he owns the prominent thoroughbred racing operation, St. Elias Stable.
Saturday's 13-race card will feature a special first post of 12:05 PM, with admission gates opening at 10:30 AM. Click here for more information.
