New York Yankees Confirm Return of Legendary Voice for Playoff Run
As the New York Yankees prepare themselves for the 2024 MLB Playoffs, a familiar voice is preparing to narrate the team's playoff run on the radio.
As announced by WFAN on Thursday, long-time Yankees' broadcaster John Sterling is set to come out of retirement in the week leading up to the start of the 2024 MLB Playoffs.
The radio station shared this post on their X account on Thursday afternoon:
Back in April, Sterling made the decision to step away from New York's radio broadcast booth, retiring from a post that he'd held since 1989.
Like Ruth, Mantle and DiMaggio, Sterling's final statistics were Hall of Fame-worthy. He broadcasted 5,420 regular season games for the New York Yankees, in addition to 211 postseason games.

Sterling briefly returned to the broadcast booth on August 20th, appearing on the day in which New York handed out t-shirts that honored the 20 seasons he and Suzyn Waldman worked together in the radio booth.
Now, he will once again pair with Waldman on radio broadcasts, and the duo will call one last playoff run together before Sterling hangs up the headphones for good.
As of September 5th, the Yankees have a record of 80-60. Despite a record of 30-38 since June 15th, the team is still just one half-game behind Baltimore for the lead in the American League East.
Meanwhile, they are currently the top seed in the American League Wild Card, and have a four-game cushion over the 2nd place team, the Minnesota Twins.
The 2024 MLB Playoffs begin on Tuesday, October 1st. All New York Yankees' games, regular season and postseason, can be heard on 104.5 The Team ESPN Radio.
