Dozens Jobless at Swifty’s: New Albany Venue Offers Immediate Hiring

Swifty's News Shocked Many in the Capital Region

The news was shocking, and the timing couldn't have been worse: just a few weeks before Christmas.

However, in the wake of Swifty’s Restaurant & Pub suddenly shutting its doors and leaving dozens of loyal employees without warning or work, one new Albany business is stepping up in a big way.

Swifty's has two locations in the Capital Region. One at 95 Everett Road in Albany, where multiple Colonie Police cars were seen blocking the entrance on Thursday. They have another location in Delmar and one in Utica, New York, that was also shut down.

The Greenhouse Social Club, currently transforming the former La Serre space in downtown Albany, announced on Thursday that it will immediately begin hiring former Swifty’s staff as a show of support during the holiday season.

The restaurant and social club, now undergoing significant renovations, plans to hire more than 50 employees in its first phase, with expectations to grow to more than 100 hospitality jobs as operations expand.

“Swifty’s had a talented, hardworking staff who helped create a warm, familiar Albany institution,” said partners Greg Caggiano and Todd Miller. “We don’t want to see these men and women left behind."

The Greenhouse Social Club said it would offer training, support, and long-term growth paths for restaurant workers in front-of-house, back-of-house, culinary, bartending, and management roles.

“At a time when people should be focused on their families and the holiday season, they shouldn’t have to worry about losing their livelihood,” Caggiano and Miller added. “We’re stepping in because community matters, people matter, and Albany takes care of its own.”
