Glens Falls Native Apologizes to Fans after ‘Devastating’ Olympics
Bad Injury and Disappointing Results
Upstate New York native Jimmer Fredette went to Paris hoping to win gold in Team USA 3x3 basketball in the Olympic Games.
Instead, the former Glens Falls and BYU standout suffered a terrible injury, and his team, which was poised to make a long run in the games, was bounced from the tournament over the weekend after winning only 2 of the seven games they played.
On Sunday, Fredette, one of New York State's best high school players who played in Glens Falls from 2003-2007, posted a rather lengthy and heartfelt apology to fans, shedding some insight into his injury during their second game.
Fredette Talks About His Olympic Injury
First off, I am so grateful to have been an Olympian and to represent Team USA in 3x3 basketball...To wear USA across my chest was an honor.
I had an injury that took place in the beginning minutes of our second game against Poland. I tore two different ligaments completely in my adductor, which prevented me from being able to compete. This will lead me to have a recovery of around 6 months.
This is devastating for me as I have put two years into qualifying for the Olympics with this group who are my brothers.
Jimmer Apologizes to Fans
Fredette would go on to say in his post that he had just been designated as the number one 3x3 player in the world on the day he suffered his horrible injury. And while the classy sharp-shooter from Upstate New York didn't have to, he apologized to his fans for their continued love and support.
Pretty crazy coincidence. But We were fully prepared and excited to make a medal run here in Paris. I’m sorry to all the fans who supported me and our team as I wish it could have gone differently. But thank you for your support and love. Always keep the faith and smile through the bad.
Fredette, who has given Capital Region (and nationwide) fans so many exciting moments over the years, was disappointed by his team's play in the Olympics and is taking it hard. And while he certainly didn't owe us an apology, it speaks volumes for the class and character of the former Upstate New York native. We wish him well with his recovery and hope to see him back on the hardwood soon.
