Son, Bobby passed away in 2011 and Pat ran Massie's until 2016. That's when they sold it to the current owner, Jonathan Greenwood, the great-grandson of a former Massie's waiter.

He bought the restaurant seven years ago and remodeled it, expanded it, and redid the interior.

Jonathan also kept many of the traditional menu items that generations of customers had grown to love.

Now the owner says it has been non-stop and he needs a break. He said that Massie's is closed for at least three months. He has only taken two vacations in seven years and never took a sick day. Jonathan said,

It’s been seven-and-a-half years of going all out, but I’m burned out to zero. I’m working 70, 80 hours a week. I’ve got to recharge. I have no quality of life anymore.

Quality Has Always Been the Main Focus

At Massie's Italian Restaurant, it was always about making the best quality food and not about the money.

Keeping this going for the regulars who have been so faithful has been wonderful. I don’t care about the money. I have never cared about money. I care about the quality of every meal that goes out of our kitchen.

Greenwood said that telling customers and his employees was very emotional and he still feels like he's letting people down.

Hopefully, he will get the rest and relaxation he needs and Massie's will re-open in the next few months.
