Upstate NY Woman Accused of Dragging Deputy While Fleeing Arrest
She Ended Up Passed Out Behind the Wheel
A routine patrol in Montgomery County turned into a violent and dangerous chase Saturday night after a woman allegedly dragged a sheriff’s deputy while attempting to flee police.
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened around 9 pm on Saturday night along State Highway 30A near Corbin Hill Road in the Town of Charleston.
Woke Up and Tried to Flee
A deputy on patrol came across a vehicle stopped in the roadway and found the driver, 41-year-old Stephanie R. Ferris of Fonda, passed out behind the wheel.
When the deputy attempted to wake Ferris and gave her commands to exit the vehicle, she reportedly refused to comply.
As the deputy tried to physically remove her, Ferris allegedly started the car and fled. In doing so, she dragged the deputy southbound along State Highway 30A until he was thrown off, suffering injuries in the process.

The deputy immediately radioed for help and pursued the vehicle. Ferris was later located near State Highway 30A and Fox Street, where her vehicle had crashed into a guide rail and become disabled. The report states that Ferris attempted to flee the scene but was taken into custody without further incident.
Investigators say Ferris was found in possession of more than 34 grams of crack cocaine and two amphetamine pills. The MCSO say that both Ferris and the injured deputy were treated at St. Mary’s Hospital and later released.
Ferris now faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges and was remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without bail. Additional charges are pending.
