Get Us Down!

Visitors at Six Flags New England had a few tense minutes this weekend when the New England SkyScreamer ride got stuck high above the park, leaving passengers dangling for what must have seemed like an eternity.

The incident happened over the weekend at the popular theme park in Springfield, Massachusetts, and 90 minutes southeast of Albany.

According to the Facebook page Six Flags New England Fan Base, the massive swing ride stopped for about 15 minutes before restarting.

The post, made by Matthew Reise, assured everyone that after some scary moments, all riders got off safely and no injuries were reported.

One of the Tallest of Its Kind

The SkyScreamer isn’t just any ride: it’s one of the tallest of its kind in the world. Here’s why the thought of being stuck on it gave people chills:

  • It lifts you more than 400 feet into the air.
  • You’re strapped into an open-air seat with your legs dangling.
  • As the ride spins, you reach speeds of 35–40 mph.
  • From the very top, only the birds can hear you scream.

Thanks, But No Thanks!

No surprise then that Facebook commenters weren’t shy about how terrifying it would be:

“I’d have a heart attack.” – Leah Tressler

“I’m on the couch and still having a heart attack. Lol.” – Christine Dube

“Literally my worst nightmare.” – Dawn Dionne

“Yes, ma’am!! Hell no.” – Laura Payton

Thankfully, everyone walked away safely, although some may have needed a change of clothing afterward.
