Just when you thought your financial burden might finally be eased, details have been revealed on a proposed National Grid rate hike.

The proof will be in the pudding when the New York state budget gets fully enacted, but some measures proposed yesterday gave taxpayers some hope that financial relief is on the way. The new budget includes a $1 billion tax cut, increased Child Tax Credits, and a $400 inflation refund check.
But as it always goes, good news is once again accompanied by bad news. Especially when it comes to your money!
National Grid Proposes New Rate Hike For New Yorkers
Say it ain't so! Our National Grid bills are high enough!
According to a CBS 6 report, a proposed rate hike could raise your National Grid by $50 over the next few years. The increase is a result of the company looking to raise electricity and gas rates over the next 3 years, and National Grid officials say the increase is necessary to stay ready for increased storm activity and to prepare for the "uncertainty" around the economy and tariffs.
The increases would be phased in over 3 years, raising bills up to $600 a year for some customers, and CBS 6 says National Grid plans more assistance programs to help those struggling to pay their utility bills.
In our household, this winter our National Grid bills were higher than ever, and I can't imagine them getting even steeper. I had sticker shock every time I opened that monthly email with my bill! Here's to hoping we do not have the brutal cold in the winters ahead that we had this year.
