Toy Hall Of Fame Winners Include My Little Pony & Transformers
After years of waiting, My Little Pony has finally been inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame, joining Transformers action figures and the Phase 10 card game.
This year’s winners were chosen after a vote among fans and experts, beating out other finalists like Apples to Apples, Pokémon cards, and Hess Toy Trucks.
Christopher Bensch, the museum’s chief curator said,
This honor is particularly sweet for My Little Pony because it had been a finalist seven times before securing a spot.
Originally introduced in the 1980s, these pastel ponies, each with its unique “cutie mark,” have inspired decades of imaginative play and collecting.
Phase 10, a card game that first appeared in 1982, has quietly become one of the world’s bestselling games, with 2 million decks sold annually. Who knew? In the style of rummy, players complete 10 card phases in order, keeping the competition fun and multigenerational.
Transformers, Hasbro’s iconic shape-shifting robots, debuted in the ‘80s and quickly captivated fans through cartoons and live-action films. According to the Hall of Fame, Transformers are perfect for sparking kids’ imaginations.
Each year, fans can nominate toys for the Hall of Fame, with finalists selected by museum staff. Fan votes are combined with those from a panel of historians and experts, ensuring only the most impactful, beloved toys make it in.
