Rockers React: 22 Killed in Bombing at Ariana Grande Concert in Manchester, England
Last night (May 22) tragedy struck the sacred institution of live music as 22 people were killed after explosives went off in Manchester, England. Thousands of fans had gathered to watch pop star Ariana Grande perform, but after the concert was over, a bomb was detonated in a terrorist attack.
Along with the 22 confirmed dead, 59 more were hospitalized, some with life-threatening injuries. According to the New York Times, authorities believe the suicide bomber acted alone. Since the news broke, ISIS has taken credit for the monstrous action.
This attack is the deadliest in the history of Manchester and the worst act of terrorism on British soil since 2005. “After our darkest of nights, Manchester is today waking up to the most difficult of dawns,” Mayor Andy Burnham told reporters. “These were children, young people, and their families. Those responsible chose to terrorize and kill. This was an evil act.”
Musicians from the rock and metal world have paid their respects via social media:
We’d like to send our deepest condolences to those who lost loved ones in this senseless attack. We’d also like to send out best wishes to those injured.
