The Albany Empire are back and already they have signed a former Capital Region football standout. Griffin Clancy, the former UAlbany Great Dane offensive lineman, signed with the Albany Empire this past weekend. The six foot six three hundred fifteen pound lineman played in thirty six career games for the Great Danes. The Saratoga High School product was a part of the 2019 UAlbany NCAA tournament qualifying team.

The Empire are scheduled to return next spring as members of the National Arena League. If the league kicks off in the spring of 2021, they will be without two franchises. The league announced last week that the Tampa Bay Tornadoes and Louisville Xtreme, will not be a part of the league for the 2021 season. Including the Empire, the league is scheduled to have six teams for the 2021 season.

Clancy's former team, the UAlbany Great Danes did not take the field this fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However last month the CAA released the conference's spring football schedule including where and when the Great Danes will be playing this spring.
