Adirondack High Peaks

It was the day after Christmas for an experienced hiker who just wanted to explore the Adirondack peaks. But it turned into a harrowing ordeal.

If you have ever traveled along Route 73 near Lake Placid or any of the other roads that access the Adirondack High Peaks, you know that there are hundreds of cars parked along the roadside. To alleviate the parking and hiking gridlock, a reservation system is in place.

There is a more convenient and safer way to hike in the Adirondack High Peaks. It is an addition to the other service offered by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Hop aboard the free shuttle.

Since the pandemic, it seems more and more people are hiking the Adirondacks. There are cars parked on the sides of roads and a ton of foot traffic. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has teamed up with Essex County, and the Town of Keene to run a new shuttle system that will take hikers to the base of the Adirondack High Peaks.
