Should we be expected to see some of that familiar haze we saw in 2023 because of the Canadian wildfires this year?

We all remember when those wildfires were burning in Canada last year. The smoke made its way down into the USA and went way further south than you'd expect. Here in Upstate New York we really felt that smoke and haze.

The skies were orange and it smelled like a campsite outside for a few days. They even told people to refrain from outdoor related activities due to the air quality. So are we going to have to worry about that happening again here in the Capital Region?

The answer to that is probably no. The Times Union reports that the Midwest is feeling the brunt of the force from the Canadian wildfires this time, but most of New York State will be "spared."

While there have been other reports I'll just give it to you straight - it looks like we will be in the clear for this one. Firstly, the fires this time around isn't nearly as bad as as last year. The wind also seems to be in our favor. I can't say the same for the Midwest. Sorry, guys.

However, according to that TU report if those wildfires intensify the smoke could move to the east coast. We may not be out of the woods just yet, but for right now it looks like we are in the clear.
