
40 Day Target Boycott Is Happening Around New York – Here’s Why
Many around New York State are choosing to boycott Target over the next 40 days because of a policy change at the retail giant.
This isn't the first and certainly won't be the last time we hear about people getting together to boycott something here in the United States. Target seems to be the latest in a long line of recent boycotts around the country. People are unhappy, and the easiest way to voice that is by not giving big business your hard earned money.
A Target boycott comes just a few days after the big 24 hour economic blackout that took place at the end of February. That boycott was against billionaires and big corporations, and instead wanting people to give their money to small local business. This one against Target is motivated by other reasons.

CNN reports that people around New York and beyond are boycotting Target stores due to their change in DEI policy. DEI stands for diversity, equality, and inclusion. The Trump administration as taken a hard stance against DEI and has ended many federal programs DEI policies. Target seems to be following that path.

The 40 day boycott begins along with Lent. Atlanta based megachurch pastor Rev. Jamal Bryant is who started the boycott and is asking others to join him in 40 days of giving up Target.
We’re asking people to divest from Target because they have turned their back on our community.
Target is not the only company to do away with their DEI programs since there has been growing pressure from right wing legal groups and activists over the practices. Many Target consumers feel "betrayed" by their backtracking of policy because of how diversified Target had become.
