$55 Million In Gangster Money Hidden In The Adirondacks?
I love stories of lost treasure, hidden fortunes and the lucky people that discover them. That's why one of my favorite shows on TV is The History Channel's "The Curse of Oak Island." I've been fascinated by the story of the money pit and what's in it since I was a child.
Another show that scratches my treasure hunting itch is "Code of the Wild" on the Travel Channel. Where these two guys go around the country and try to figure out some of history's biggest mysteries. Sometimes they are investigating lost gold, or a lost person and sometimes they come to Upstate New York looking for a gangster's fortune hidden somewhere in the Adirondacks.
According to the article in the The Times Union the show taped an episode in Warren County in pursuit of Dutch Schultz's hidden fortune. Dutch Schultz was a gangster and bootlegger that supposedly hid about $55 million and was killed by a rival before his hidden stash was recovered.
The gangster was rumored to have said his treasure could be seen from the highest point in Saratoga County, Martin said. That would be Tenant Mountain -Times Union
The episode of "Call of the Wild" featuring Dutch Schultz's hidden fortune is coming up at 10 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10.
So did they find the treasure? I guess we'll have to tune in to find out. If they didn't, I'm buying a metal detector and you can find me on top of Tenant Mountain!
