Partial Building Collapse in City of Albany, NY

A scary moment in the city of Albany earlier today as a building partially collapsed into a street. This resulted in some road closures as crews quickly began to do the clean up.

The building, located at 135 Ontario Street, partially collapsed into Bradford street. It left bricks all over the road. According to WTEN, the front side of the building separated from the rest of the building.

Firefighters and other first responders made their way to the scene quickly and the mayor's office reports that there were no injuries as a result of the collapse.

CBS6 reports that the building had been vacant for a while and was currently undergoing some renovations. Verizon crews were working nearby when it happens. Officials are still investigating what caused this happen, so this will be an ongoing story.

What causes a building collapse?

According to Ferraro Law, the most common cause for a building to collapse is a weak foundation. Foundations can shift and it can be caused by a number things, such as water damage from flooding. Other things attributed to collapses are faulty construction, poo quality building materials, and corrosion.
