Governor Cuomo is receiving an Emmy, Monday, November 23rd. Yes, you read that right...Governor Cuomo....not CNN TV anchor Chris Cuomo, but Governor Andrew Cuomo. Why?

Well, love him or hate him, his daily coronavirus updates on TV have become the standard that other politicians look to as the way to use television to keep citizens informed, aware, and sometimes entertained during the coronavirus pandemic.

The International Emmy Awards said Cuomo would receive the Founders Award during a live-streamed event on Monday in recognition of his leadership and “masterful use of television to inform and calm people around the world”.

“The Governor’s 111 daily briefings worked so well because he effectively created television shows, with characters, plot lines, and stories of success and failure,” said International Academy President & CEO, Bruce L. Paisner.  “People around the world tuned in to find out what was going on, and New York tough became a symbol of the determination to fight back.”

During his daily briefings, Governor Cuomo has been pretty blunt, laying out the facts in easy to understand power-point presentations. He also talked a lot about family, his daughters, and his mother especially during the early days of the pandemic.

What's weird is this public praise of Governor Cuomo on the heals of unrelenting, criticism over forcing nursing homes to accept “medically stable” COVID-19 patients discharged from hospitals. According to some reports, this action may have cost thousands of lives.

According to the NY Post, State Republican Chairman Nick Langworthy called the award “proof positive that Hollywood lives in its own alternative reality” and “offensive to so many families that lost loved ones in New York.”

During Friday's coronavirus briefing, Governor Cuomo said that he had prepared his acceptance speech video and that he thanked the academy, "which I got a real kick out of.”
