And They’re Off! Ten Must-See Summer Events at Saratoga Race Course
In what feels like the blink of an eye, we are a few weeks away from the beginning of the 2022 summer meet at Saratoga Race Course.
Nearly every year since 1864, the Spa has opened its gates to the masses in the Capital Region, and it's been the backdrop for some of horse racing's most memorable moments. While it's seen some masterful victories, it's also seen its fair share of heartbreak. So much so, in fact, that it's earned the nickname The Graveyard of Champions.
As the graveyard readies itself to welcome its newest members, the New York Racing Association readies itself to welcome thousands of eager racing fans.
As NYRA continues its preparations for the summer meet, they've announced their full schedule of special events that will be taking place at the track during the season. This year's schedule features multiple celebrity guests, both human and equine, in addition to countless themed days and events.
The 2022 summer meet begins at Saratoga Race Course begins on Thursday, July 14th, and Opening Weekend runs from that day through Sunday, July 17th. It runs through the remainder of the summer, with Closing Weekend running from September 3rd through 5th. The first Grade I race falls on Saturday, July 16th, with the running of the Diana. Whitney Day will fall on August 6th, while Travers Day will happen on August 27th.
