I took a little time away from the computer this past weekend for the holiday. Spent it with the family and had a great Memorial Day. But when I get back there is another story about someone getting hacked. This time it was the home of Bert and Ernie, PBS, being hacked. Why PBS? Who did Mr. Suffelupagus offend? Tech Thursday – Sony Music Japan Hacked
It seems that Sony has incurred the wrath of hackers these past few months. First it was the PlayStation Network, where PS3 owners can connect their consoles and play others in online games, as well as purchase music and games. Now, Sony's music division is under attack from hackers. The attack has exposed user data leaving Sony in another PR mess.
Tech Tuesday – The Watson Computer is now Dr. Watson?
You may remember, that back in February, that a computer called Watson, and built by IBM, took on 2 Jeopardy champions and pretty much beat them in a 2 out of 3 series of matches. I even showed you how to build your own Watson Jr. Super Computers. Now, IBM has moved Watson from game shows to medicine.
Tech Thursday – Can an App Fix Parking Problems?
While I was in Troy recently, I drove around the block where a store I go to was located, about 5 times looking and hoping for someone to pull out and leave an opening I could get into. If I had this app before I got to the street the store I visit was on, I could have known where to park before I got there and saved myself a trip around the block.
Tech Tuesday – Albany NanoCollege to Produce New Type of Chip
According to a story on the Times Union website, the Albany College of Nanscale Science and Engineering has announced a $10 Million Dollar deal with west coast based company APIC Corp, to produce new integrated circuits and chips that use photons, instead of electrons to do the computations a micro processor chip does for the function it was designed.
Tech Thursday – Google’s Music Locker Launches Without Record Labels
A month ago, I did a story about Amazon's Cloud Player that lets you upload music from your music library on your computer so you can access it from any WiFI or 3G connection. Google has now started it's cloud music service, and in Google fashion it's in limted beta to start, but unlike Amazon, is launching without licensing permission from the labels.
Tech Tuesday – $25 Computer on A Stick
The One Laptop per Child program was meant to get computers into the hands of kids that couldn't afford them, giving them the ability to have the tools to learn like many kids in 1st world countries. But this new computer aims to increase the reach that OLPC started, and doing it for only $25.
