President Biden Makes Big Upstate NY Plan Days Before Midterms

With critical gaps narrowing across the country in the November 8th midterm elections, President Joe Biden has been focusing on key areas and battlegrounds over the past weeks. Getting one Presidential visit in a month is big enough, but now Upstate New York is getting a second.

This comes after the largest private-sector investment in New York’s history confirms the state’s status as one of America’s future tech leaders. On October 6, President Biden toured the IBM facility in Poughkeepsie. He was there to tout the CHIPS and Science Act passed earlier this year to dramatically ramp up semiconductor manufacturing in the States.

While in Poughkeepsie, Biden talked about Upstate’s strides in quantum computing and the race against China to capture semiconductor market share. Biden also mentioned GlobalFoundries, who earlier this year okayed an 800 acre expansion in Malta.

Biden also talked about Micron, who are building a historic $100 billion complex to advance production. Micron Technology will use the Onondaga County facility to produce advance memory chips for the US military and major companies, for uses in national defense, cell phones, and automobiles.

The 7.2 million square foot facility will be the largest semiconductor plant in US history, and take two decades to fully build. When completed, the “Megafab” will have four separate clean rooms, each forty football fields in size, and employ around 50,000 workers.

President Biden will tour and speak at Micron’s future site at White Pine Commerce Park in the town of Clay. This will be a homecoming of sorts for the President, who attended Syracuse University Law School, nearby. LocalSyr.com confirmed the President will visit this Thursday the 27th at the invitation of Senator Chuck Schumer and Governor Kathy Hochul.

With only a few remaining weeks to go until the 2022 midterm elections, a new Siena College Research Institute poll shows what issues New York voters are most concerned with. Data was collected between September 16-25 via phone from 655 likely New York State voters.

A majority 53% of New Yorkers are pessimistic about where the country is headed, while 47% think the state's future is in trouble. Environmental issues just edged out of the top 8, with 55% of those polled in favor of New York passing the proposed $4.2 billion environmental bond act in November.

A lot has happened since the house last sold in 2005 for $68,000. Between the previous occupant becoming Vice-President and then the 46th President over the past 17 years, along with the current housing market, the property is now on the market at a substantial uptick of $334,900.
