The Smashing Pumpkins front man has long been outspoken when it comes to the music industry.  His latest beef seems to be with all major labels.

It has been a few years now since Billy Corgan and The Smashing Pumpkins released their "comeback" album Zeitgeist which pretty much flopped.  After the failure of the record Corgan and the band were dropped from their record label after that and ever since Corgan has been against the conventional release of music.

He is now the only remaining original member of the Pumpkins and they continue to release music, you just won't be able to find it in stores since they are technically a "free agent".  They have about 44 tracks that you can download from Smashing Pumpkins.com or their official myspace page.

Ever since the failure of Zeitgeist Corgan has said that he will only release music through the digital download medium. In his most recent interview with Spinner.com, Corgan thinks the "industry" has too much of a strangle hold on the music and it takes the fun out of making it.

Something about the need for the major label system to corner the market has squeezed the excitement out of music. It's almost like the restaurant where the prices are too high, you can't enjoy your food. You feel like you're getting ripped off, but you don't know why. Fans overall have rebelled.

- Billy Corgan

Corgan would also had that the music industry refuses to catch up on the times and act as though they are taking risks but really are not.  I don't know about you, but it sounds to me like he is just bitter that no one is liking the music that he is putting out anymore.  I love classic Smashing Pumpkins, but the latest material from them just doesn't do it for me.  I do think Corgan has the right idea as far as digital downloads go.  There is a select group of people who still run out to buy music at the record store but most people just hop onto itunes and purchase a song or two.
