As we turn the corner on summer, and school starting back up for many in Upstate New York, we are looking to our next adventure this fall and winter. We certainly have no shortage of options to go to from Albany International Airport, but some airlines have chosen to decrease their current flight schedules and suspend routes. All summer Southwest had decreased some of their routes, and that pattern seems to be carrying over to the fall.

The latest edition to Albany International Airport is Breeze Airways. This airline offers multiple direct flights from ALB to destinations up and down the east coast of the United States. Those spots currently include South Carolina, Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, and Fort Myers. However that schedule could look different this fall.

According to Simply Flying, Breeze will temporarily be cutting down on some of their routes this fall. This route suspension will unfortunately include the direct flight from Albany to Fort Meyers, FL.

Breeze Airways Route Suspension in Albany

We reached out to Albany International Airport for clarification on this matter and ALB Director of Matt Hunter had this information for us:

Breeze Airways’ Albany-to-Fort Myers service is only taking a one-month pause, and we look forward to seeing it return before the start of winter. Seasonal schedule changes like this are common in the airline industry, especially on routes to leisure destinations where demand shifts throughout the year. We’re proud to work with Breeze, just as we do with all of our airline partners, to promote their service from Albany and help make those routes successful.

While it might seem like this could have been troubling news, learning that changes like this common practice makes us feel a bit better about booking our travel.

Why Is This Route Suspended?

Simply Fly says that the biggest factor in these suspensions has to do with capacity cuts. Those generally happen when there is weak demand, but higher prices for things like jet fuel. They report that since the Fort Meyers flights began from Albany they ran at about 70% capacity.
