There was a point in time where the idea of a Buc-ee's coming to New York wasn't out of the question. The popular gas station brand had been doing some major expansions and began coming further north and east. That hope died over the weekend when the CEO basically said that New York wasn't the type of state they were interested in doing business with.

While attending the grand opening of the first ever location in Arkansas CEO of Buc-ee's Arch Aplin III said that there is a reason why you see more expansion in states like Arkansas. He said he gets excited when he finds a conservative business friendly state, according to The Independent. When they're looking for new locations there are certain requirements they look to meet.

What requirements does Buc-ee's look for?

The three requirements that they look for are as follows:

  • Conservative
  • Business oriented
  • Family friendly

He elaborated on those thoughts and said that he like to see things trickle down from the top of the government to the people. He said that the conservative states offer those opportunities, while more blue states don't offer them those business opportunities.

Where is the closest Buc-ee's to New York?

For right now it looks like our closest Buc-ee's location to Albany, NY is about a 7 hour drive to Virginia. Another location that you could get to is in Ohio, and that's about a 9 hour drive. The Richmond, KY location is 12 hours away. There are other locations that are about 13 hours away. Another location in Smith's Grove, KY and then one in Florence South Carolina. It looks like if you want to go to Buc-ee's you're looking at a bit of a road trip for now and the foreseeable future.
