Bumpy's Polar Freeze in Schenectady has had....well, a bumpy ride in 2020, and a lot of it has been self-inflicted. The State Street location was embroiled in controversy with the owner allegedly sending racist texts that triggered a Black Lives Matters protest, mistreating employees, and the owner even being arrested for violating health codes.

Well, it looks like that will be a thing of the past. Bumpy's Polar Freeze is going away and Stella's Creamery & Cakes is expected to open in the spring.

Ashley and Gabe Viscariello are the new owners and were raised in Schenectady. They named the new business after their daughter Stella. They said in their Facebook post announcing the new business that, "Stella has brought an infinite amount of joy and happiness into our lives and we promise Stella's Creamery & Cakes will strive to do the same for our community."

Stella's Creamery & Cakes will offer an extensive menu of specialty sundaes, gourmet cakes, premium soft and hard ice cream, and quick eats.

Ashley Viscariello worked at Bumpy’s when she was in high school a decade ago and hopes to return the location to its former glory...without all the controversy. When she originally purchased the business she considered keeping the name but decided there was too much damage done and it needed a fresh start in 2021. Don't we all.

Currently, the original Bumpy's sign is still up with the message, “New Owners See You in 2021,” according to the Daily Gazette a new sign for Stella's Creamery & Cakes will be going up soon.
