I don't care how cold it is in the Capital Region right now. I will always say yes to ice cream, and this weekend, Stewart's Shops locations in the Capital Region are giving residents the chance to get a scoop for free.

In a story filed by ABC News 10, it was announced that all this week, including this weekend, Stewart's Shops in the area will be offering a free scoop of "Civility" this weekend, a popular flavor of ice cream, to help "spread kindness" amidst the rise of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Through the end of Sunday, if you buy a single scoop of "Civility" at a local Stewart's Shops location, you will get a free scoop to share with a friend as part of the promotion. The giveaway only applies to the aforementioned vanilla-with-salted-caramel-swirl flavor, and is geared toward spreading kindness in the region.

People have taken to social media to share their experience online via the #ShareCivility hashtag.

It's been a trying time in the Capital Region, as it has been nationwide. The Omnicron variant of COVID-19 appears to be much more contagious than other variants we've experienced, and post-holiday infection rates have skyrocketed. COVID-19 test kits are at a premium, and though areas like Albany County are offering a number of testing options to its residents, wait times are long, and lines in the cold weather are longer. Speaking from experience, the testing site at the Old Ruby Tuesday's in Albany are dealing with lines down the sidewalk, and around the block.

Sports teams in the area have had to deal with postponements and cancellations as a result. UAlbany's men's basketball program, as well as the Siena Saints' men's program, have both been through their own postponements. Nationally, the Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks have both missed key players at certain times due to COVID-19.

With work-from-home mandates in place in certain areas, morale is low. It may not be much but sharing a scoop of ice cream safely could be the bright spot in someone's day.
