Chickenfoot Reunite at 5th Annual Acoustic-4-a-Cure Benefit
The 5th annual Acoustic-4-a-Cure benefit concert took place at the Fillmore in San Francisco last night (May 15), and turned into a reunion of Chickenfoot, the all-star band fronted by ex-Van Halen and Montrose frontman Sammy Hagar.
After opening the show with a short set of his own, Sammy returned to the stage to join the other members of Chickenfoot - guitarist Joe Satriani, bassist Michael Anthony and Red Hot Chili Peppers' drummer Chad Smith - for a brief set of Chickenfoot songs, playing together for the first time in just over two years.
Although the Red Rocker said the four really didn't have time to rehearse, they clearly seemed to be enjoying themselves, playing songs from their catalog including "Oh Yeah," "Sexy Little Thing" and "Something's Going Wrong."
Acoustic-4-a-Cure was created by Hagar and Metallica frontman James Hetfield as a way to put on a must-see event while donating the proceeds to the Pediatric Cancer Program at Oakland's UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital. While Hetfield was not able to participate this year, fellow Bay Area favorite Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead, stepped up to co-headline.
Other performers of note during the night included REO Speedwagon's Kevin Cronin, Eddie Money, Vic Johnson and folk/blues legend Taj Mahal, who was celebrating his 75th birthday. With the whole cast reunited at the end of the night, celebrity chef Guy Fieri arrived onstage with a cake for Majal, with Hagar and his friends performing "(Sittin' On) the Dock of the Bay."
