Last nights Emmy Awards were one of the most entertaining award ceremonies that I have seen in a long time.  The cast and crew from Modern Family once again came away the big winners overall.

ABC's Modern Family is a show that I stumbled upon in it's first season on accident.  I am glad that I did because it is hands down the funniest show on television right now, and that's saying a lot.  It has some pretty big competition out there with show's like The Office, 30 Rock and a number of hit sitcoms.  This show came in an underdog and left a champion because they once again own the Emmys with 4 big wins last night.

Both Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell who play husband and wife Claire and Phil Dunphy on Modern Family won for Best Supporting Actor and Actress in a comedy.  Bowen was nominated for the award last year as well but lost to fellow cast member Sofia Vergara, who was also up for nomination again this year.

Burrell was also nominated last year for the award but lost to another Modern Family cast member, Eric Stonestreet.   It's safe to say that unless another show comes around, it looks like this cast has a lot to offer in the future and will be taking home many awards.

Modern Family would wrap up the night with a total of 4 awards, winning in each category it was nominated for including best direction and best writing in a comedy.

Mad Men would take home the win for best drama series, upsetting two HBO favorites, Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones.  Also up for the nomination was Dexter, Friday Night Lights and The Good Wife.

Overall I thought that of all the award shows, this one was the most entertaining all around.  Jane Lynch was a fantastic host whose opening number was both funny and smart.  TV always has a good time poking fun at itself, and Lynch does it better than anyone.  The moment that I thought stole the show was when Andy Samberg and friends took the stage as The Lonely Island.  They did a mash-up of all the songs that they performed on this past season on Saturday Night Live.  These guys are awesome and even got a little help from Ed Helms, SNL alum Maya Rudolph, John Stamos, Michael Bolton and A-Kon.

I hope that other award shows take note of the Emmys. The people who run this ship seem to have a better grasp on what people want to see from award shows.
