Are The Escalators At Crossgates Mall Ever Working?
First off I want to say that I love Crossgates Mall and spend a lot of time at their various stores at all times of the year. If you happen to be someone from Crossgates reading this, don't get salty. I'm just a curious little rhino looking for answers.
I can't be the only one to notice that the escalators at Crossgates Mall are almost always turned off. Yes, some of them have the yellow barricades around them as they are being repaired, but others are just always off. It's a little weird considering the amount of people I see there on the weekends and in the evenings.
The ones that seem to be the biggest culprits are the ones on the end by JCPenney. However, I have noticed that the ones near the Funny Bone, Food Court, and in the middle of the mall are now often turned off. Essentially creating stairs for everyone.
The late Mitch Hedberg said it best, "an escalator can never break. It can only become stairs."
You should never see an Escalator Temporarily Out Of Order sign, just Escalator Temporarily Stairs. Sorry for the convenience.
What's up with the escalators at Crossgates?
Obviously there is no way that they can always be broken. I have my own theories about this that Google was able to confirm. My first thought is that they're trying to save on their energy bill - which according to Google is a reason why a venue or establishment would have their escalators turned off. I was also surprised to learn that it's actually frowned upon to use a broken escalator as stairs.

This is what leads me to believe that the escalators that are being used as stairs are just turned off and not broken.
I don't mind having to use them as stairs. I just think it's a bit strange to always seem them "out of service" as often as we do.
