Feel Like a Winter Olympian and Ride the Lake Placid Bobsled Course

The Winter Olympics are set to begin in February and if you want to feel like a bobsled champion or just see what it's like, head to Lake Placid and ride the bobsled course.

Where is the Olympic bobsled track Located?

The Lake Placid Olympic Bobsled Course is about two hours from the Capital Region and is located inside the Olympic Sports Complex at Mt. Van Hoevenberg. The course was built in 2000 to be used as a practice run for Olympians and is now a fun course for anyone to try.

When is it Open and How do I Make Reservations?

The Lake Placid Olympic Bobsled Track is open Saturdays during the winter, weather permitting. You can reserve your tickets online by clicking HERE. When you select your time at purchase, your start time will be within the one-hour time block you selected. You can also go the day of in the morning to see if there are run times available. You must arrive 10-15 minutes early at the Mountain Pass Lodge to check-in.

How Long is the Lake Placid Bobsled Course?

The track for tourists is just about 800 meters. The average sled goes about 50 to 55 miles per hour. If tourists were allowed to do the entire track, they would get up to speeds of 85 miles per hour. The entire run takes about 40 seconds total.

What are the Ride Requirements?

The first and second passengers must be at least 9 years old and 52 inches tall. The third passenger must be at least 13 years old and 52 inches tall. The maximum weight per passenger is 300 pounds.
