The New York Yankees take on the Chicago White Sox tonight at in Dyersville, Iowa in the long awaited "Field of Dreams" game. The game of course is a tribute to the baseball movie classic of the same name. Major League baseball originally wanted to play the game in August of 2020. The pandemic ended those plans. This is truly an event for the fans to enjoy and they needed to be in the stands.

I remember when the movie came out in 1989. The star-studded cast of Kevin Costner, James Earl Jones, Ray Liotta and film legend Burt Landcaster made it a box office smash before it hit the theaters.

Plenty of movies with great actors never live up to their billing. To me, this one did. Still, some baseball fans disregard the movie as "fantasy" and it is. But very honestly, dreaming is what makes baseball and really all sports so much fun. The movie is based on the book "Shoeless Joe" written by W.P. Kinsella in 1982 and the adaptation to the big screen was fantastic.

Costner starred in the leading role as Ray Kinsella. If you haven't seen it, Field of Dreams a bit of a timeless love story between the game of baseball, a man and the memories of his dad. Plenty of us are lucky enough to relate to or least dream about part of that storyline.

Tonight will be more than an exhibition for New York. The Yankees are in the heat of a pennant race right now. Every game counts, especially against playoff bound teams like the Chicago White Sox. The Bronx Bombers can't afford to let any series get away from them. They sit 2 games out of the Wild Card and only 6 back of the first place Tampa Bay Rays. New York is in a good spot with pitching help and Anthony Rizzo on the way!
