Friday, May 12: Tig’s Rock Birthdays
Happy Birthday today (May 12) to Billy Squier. The rocker is 67. Also celebrating is guitarist Billy Duffy of The Cult (56) and Kiss drummer Eric Singer (59).
Billy Squier had a bunch of hits in the 80’s. In 1981 he released his breakout album Don’t Say No featuring the single “The Stroke” which reached the Top 20 and the album sold over 4 million copies in the U.S. alone. Other hits include “In The Dark”, “My Kinda Lover”, and “Lonely is the Night”. Squier released the album Emotions in Motion in 1982 and achieved similar success with the title track and “Everybody Wants You” becoming hit singles. 1984’s Signs of Life album featured Squier’s biggest hit “Rock Me Tonight” and the album would become his third platinum-plus release.
Billy Squier unfortunately doesn’t tour that often but I was happy to catch him one time in concert with Bad Company and Styx. Great show! He actually just announced one New York area show this summer which will take place at Guild Hall in East Hampton, NY on Sept. 1. For more on Billy Squier, check out his official fan page here.
