Why Are New Yorkers Obsessed With Fridge Cigs?

It isn't every day that I come across a term that U don't recognize. As I get older it is happening a lot more often and this week I was brought up to speed on the popularity of a "fridge cig."

What is a fridge cig?

This video popped up on my Instagram the other day and I was not clear on what he was talking about until I looked into it. While many people are no longer taking up the habit of smoking cigarettes, they are developing a love for diet soda.

Just something to take the edge off

Basically, a fridge cig is to the younger crowd what a smoke break was to Gen X. Instead of going outside for a quick hit of nicotine they are instead heading to the refrigerator for a caffein rush - or something like that.

According to Fast Company, Diet Coke is the go-to for most.  I completely and totally agree with this as I to enjoy grabbing a Diet Coke in the afternoons or evening and it is so satisfying. I finally understand what all you smokers were experiencing for years.

In recent years, Diet Coke has made a noticeable comeback. Gen Z’s version of the smoke break is the “Diet Coke break.”

I had no idea that Diet Coke needed to make a comeback as it has always been one of my favorites.

As it turns out I am a fridge cig hipster because I was doing this long before it became a trend. Perhaps that makes me a bit of a trend setter? The world will never know because there wasn't social media back then to create those trends on.
