My family and I went to the Fly Creek Cider Mill during the holidays in 2019, before anyone had even heard of the coronavirus. We had a great time. I've always loved watching the old 1899 water-driven press crushing the apples to make cider and the cider donuts were amazing. I was saddened to see the announcement that they were closing.

Fly Creek Cider Mill made the announcement on its Facebook page that it would be officially closing its doors on January 31st and that the inventory of cider, cheese, and cider donuts would be sold at the mill store until they are gone.

The Fly Creek Cider Mill has been in business for 160 years, but with the pandemic in 2020, shutdowns, and lack of customers coming in it's been a really tough year. Bill Michaels, Fly Creek Cider Mill & Orchard president was quoted in www.NYUP.com as saying, "We’re going to take the next three months to reassess the situation to make some hard choices, reevaluate our position, and go from there.”

Well, there's good news. the Fly Creek Cider Mill isn't closing forever after all. After selling off most of their inventory earlier this year they actually put the business up for sale for about $2 million.  In the end, they didn't sell the business and instead decided to not retire and reopen sometime in the next few months.

I can't wait to enjoy some of their delicious apple cider and apple cider donuts in the very near future.
