Ladies and gentlemen of the Capital Region, class is officially in session!

This time of year is extremely important for kids who of grade-school age, and their families. The spring semester is coming to a close, and final exams are just around the corner. Kids are taking Advanced Placement exams, going on college visits, and planning where their educational journey will take them next fall.

When it comes to the decision of which high school is best for you and your child, a new set of rankings has been released that may help with that important decision.

The news outlet U.S. News has come out with their updates 2022 rankings for the best high schools in the country. U.S. News studies roughly 24,000 high schools in the 50 U.S. States, and weighs certain criteria such as graduation rate, A.P. Test scores, college placement success rate and much more.

When all is said and done, overall statistics are calculated, and rankings are released. The rankings can be viewed at a national level, and can be broken down by state, as well as metropolitan area. We took a look at the rankings for New York state, and found some interesting trends.

A few notes on the rankings before we get to the Capital Region schools. Townsend Harris High School in Flushing, NY, was voted the best school in New York State, according to the report. Nationally, it was Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Virginia, that took home the prize as the best high school in the country.

The Capital Region had two high schools crack the Top 100 in the state of New York, as well as the Top 1,000 in the United States. We previously ranked the ten best public high schools and the best private high schools in the Capital Region, and saw some similarities between the data Niche provided us, and the data that U.S. News presented.
