Albany, NY Has Been Mispronouncing Primark's Name This Whole Time

Retail chains with funny names have always been around. What is even more fun is seeing how different people pronounce different things depending on how they look at it and where they're from.

A store like Primark, which is has called Albany home since July 20, 2023, has locations across Europe and Ireland and apparently they're trying to set the record straight on how customers should be saying the name of this store.

The correct way to pronounce Primark is apparently PR-EYE-mark. Not PRY-mark or PREE-Mark like many in Scotland and Wales have called it for years.. I have been calling it PRY-mark since it opened. Mostly because my brain sees PRI and automatically goes to that as a way to say it. I didn't know we had to emphasize the R so much. I know that I can't be alone in this thinking. The next time you go to this store now you know the right way to pronounce it.

This is just like the realization that we had all been saying Aldi wrong for years. It's AL-di, not ALL-di in case you were wondering.

What is Primark?

If you haven't visited their location in Crossgates Mall since it opened in 2023 you may not be familiar with this store. It is based out of Ireland and has been around since 1969 as a discount fashion retailer. Fun fact, it is known as Pennys in Europe because that was the name of their first store. However it can't be called that here in the USA because of JCPenney.

Anyone who has been to Primark knows that it is a place to find the latest trends in fashion for a really cheap price. Not to say the the clothing quality is cheap, but the prices are very low. I have done back to school shopping with my kids at Primark for the last couple of years and it has saved me a good amount of money.

Not only can you find fashion trends as an adult for every season, but the kids can find a lot of their favorite characters on all sorts of clothing. Even I have fallen victim to a graphic t-shirt or two.
