On Friday October 30th we had a fresh blanket of snow to cover the Capital Region. This past Monday and Tuesday we struggled to reach 40 degrees for the daytime high. Today, as I sit here and write to you, the temperature in Albany is 73! Snow, rain, daytime highs in the 30's and now the 70's, all in ONE WEEK! We are hopeful that this is the of a stretch of warm days and mild nights. Come on 2020 give us this at least!
The crew at Jim's Tastee Freez in Delmar are seizing the moment and have decided to re-open! Yes, re-open after having closed for the season a few weeks ago.
In the town I grew up in we had a Dairy Queen down on Main Street and their opening and closing acted as the unofficial time keeper of the seasons. If I drove by and saw the line backing up I could declare that Spring had arrived even if it was late February or early March. Same process would be applied to the "See You Next Spring" sign in the window each fall. This is no different for those that grew up in this area as Jim's has been serving the region for 50 years!
We've taken the air conditioners out of the windows and turned the heat on and off as often as a TV so we do realize we are on borrowed time with the warmth. This re-opening will last as long as a sundae on an August afternoon. This week, stop by Jim's Tastee Freez, 58 Delaware Avenue, Delmar between 12 noon and 8pm and get a Boston Shake, soft serve or a Tornado!
