A new study from car insurance experts iSelect was released that showed which roads in New York State have had the most fatal accidents during the summer months.

It showed that state highways account for 29% of all fatal crashes nationwide and that nearly 2000 fatal crashes since 2020 have happened on the state highways in New York State.

100 Deadliest Days of Summer In New York State

We are in the middle of "The 100 Deadliest Days of Summer" in New York State. This is the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day when the most deadly car accidents occur across the state.

Several factors contribute to deadly car accidents during this time period.

1 - More people are on the roads. With school out of session, most families will take vacations over the summer, which means more people are on the roads. The more people on the roads, the more chances of accidents happening.

2 - More inexperienced drivers on the road. Again, with schools out of session, many students are on the road more. It could be more during the day, and with not having to get up for school the next day, there are more student drivers on the roads at night after sunset.

3 - Lots of holidays happen during the Summer. With celebrations for Memorial Day Weekend, July 4th, Labor Day, and more, people tend to be out celebrating more often. A lot of these parties could have alcohol, and there is a great chance of someone driving after drinking, which increases the chance of accidents.
