One of the largest social media platforms in the world was on the brink of implosion last night, or so it seemed.

Billionaire business magnate Elon Musk recently confirmed his purchase of Twitter, and since that transaction was completed, the platform has descended into anarchy. Users are allowed to "buy" their own verification status now, leaving us with countless parody accounts now looking completely legitimate.

The drama has continued to unfold from there, with Musk making a decision to shut the entire operation down, almost in the blink of an eye.

Musk-Led Twitter is in Shambles, and NYC's Twitter Office Has Been Closed

The drama began to unfold last night, as Rolling Stone and a number of other outlets reported that Elon Musk had made the decision to shut down all Twitter headquarters for the time being. That includes the major "hub" in San Francisco, as well as the Twitter NYC offices in the Empire State.

This was the crescendo, or apex, of a wild few days for Musk and the company. Reports alleged had Musk sent out a company-wide note, telling employees about his new plan, tentatively titled Twitter 2.0.

Here's what that means, in simple terms: their workload would be increasing dramatically, and the demands on them would be heightened significantly, in the coming weeks. The letter also included a link to a form, which employees could fill out to "opt-in" for this next phase, or choose to quit, and receive a severance package.

As a result, upwards of 1,000 employees chose to resign from their positions, causing chaos within the ranks of remaining Twitter employees. The chaos became so widespread that Musk then made the decision mentioned above, to close all offices, in order to learn more about what makes the platform tick.

Reading the writing on the metaphorical walls, Twitter users began to prematurely eulogize the social media platform, using such hashtags as #TwitterOFF, #RIPTwitter and #GoodbyeTwitter to punctuate their remarks.

Here is a few of our favorites:

In the hours following the mass-shutdown, Musk relented a bit. He ordered all coders or “anyone who actually writes software” to travel to Twitter's headquarters in San Francisco on Friday afternoon. The specific reason for the request wasn't immediately clear, but one thing appears to be certain.

Elon Musk is a genius, but a very erratic leader, and appears to be changing his mind constantly on how to proceed with this company. He better figure it out quickly, because if he doesn't, the Twitter HQ in New York is going to be very empty, very soon.
