On Tuesday, January 16th, Dusty Slay's first Netflix comedy special, Workin' Man, was released on the streaming service.

By Thursday, Slay's special was the second-most watched program on Netflix. The hilarious comedian made thousands of fans seemingly overnight, with one reviewer even calling him an instant classic for his performance.

Between Tuesday and Thursday of last week, which would mean Wednesday, Slay joined me and Mike Giarraputo on 'The Drive' to discuss it all.

Here's what he had to say.

Dusty Slay Talks 'Workin' Man' Special, Capital Region Comedy on 'The Drive'

Before I share the interview, let me say this: it was an absolute honor to welcome comedian Dusty Slay onto 'The Drive' on Wednesday of last week. As some of you know, the first time I ever attended a show at the Albany Funny Bone, it was to see Dusty Slay perform.

My mom, my dad and I all grabbed tickets to see the show this past summer, and we were laughing from start-to-finish that night. My mom and I both discovered Dusty when he was announced as the new co-host of Nateland, a podcast (at the time) hosted by Nate Bargatze, Brian Bates, and fellow friend of the show, Aaron Weber.

Since that announcement, which came in May of 2022, my family and I were hooked, which made it all the more exciting when Slay announced his upcoming Netflix special.

Come to find out, Dusty Slay also has a special connection to the comedy scene in the Capital Region. As he explained to us during our conversation last week, he was one of the comedians that performed on the first show held at the Albany Funny Bone.

He's returned to the Capital Region on every subsequent tour, and is once again scheduled to return to the Funny Bone in August of 2024.

Aside from seeing him on tour, as I mentioned before, you can hear Dusty on The Nateland Podcast, as well as his own show, the We're Having a Good Time Podcast. He's also appeared on Netflix's The Standups, as well as the Comedy Central Stand-Up Featuring series.
