Albany Sheriff Suspends Deputy as K9 Casey Investigation Continues
Dog Handler Suspended
The investigation into the heartbreaking death of Albany County Sheriff’s K9 Casey has taken another turn, with the dog’s handler now suspended without pay.
According to NewsChannel 13, Deputy Giuseppe Stone was suspended Thursday, August 20th, as the Albany County Sheriff’s Office continues investigating the circumstances surrounding Casey’s escape from her kennel in Ravena.

Things Aren't Adding Up
Sheriff Craig Apple told WNYT that investigators are reviewing the timeline surrounding Casey’s disappearance and subsequent death, adding that some things “aren’t adding up.”
Casey, an 80-pound bloodhound, disappeared from her home near Willis Street and Main Street in Ravena on Saturday, August 15th. After an extensive search, she was tragically found dead in the median of the New York State Thruway, approximately a half-mile away.

Apple previously said surveillance video helped investigators determine that Casey apparently escaped through a kennel door that had not been properly latched.
No Criminal Charges Yet
As part of the ongoing investigation, Apple has also removed another police dog that had been under Stone’s care.
The suspension does not, by itself, establish wrongdoing, and the Sheriff’s Office has not announced any criminal charges. The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to determine exactly what happened before Casey escaped.
