There is rooting interest in this season of The Voice on NBC. One of the contestants, a country singer, spent a few years here in the Capital Region playing for a church band, local bars, and a famous fair. Now he is on to the second round of NBC's The Voice.

His name is Tae Lewis and he has been trying out for reality singing shows for many years. He is 32 now but said he had tried out for American Idol when he was 18, 23, and 27 but still got a no. Getting on The Voice was just as difficult. Tae said that he tried out 5 times. Finally, he told himself this would be his last shot and ultimately got the call for the blind auditions.

What Are Tae Lewis' Ties To The Capital Region?

Back in 2018, Tae Lewis lived in Clifton Park and was in a band for the Redemption Church in Schenectady. He played country music gigs in local bars "Nashville of Saratoga", Gaffney's, Frog Alley, and Cafe Lena.

Tae Lewis also played The Great Schaghticoke Fair twice! He played in 2022 and opened for Ernest in 2023. But don't ask him to spell Schaghticoke. Tae said that just because he played that fair doesn't mean he can ever spell it.

How Did Tae Lewis Do On The Voice?

Tae Lewis sang Keith Urban's "Someone Like You" and was hoping to get Dan + Shay to turn. He said they were a huge influence on him. John Legend turned first and then "The Queen of Country" Reba turned her chair.

Ultimately, Tae chose Reba McEntyre as his coach, he got a pack of Reba's chicken tenders and a Team Reba sweatshirt.
